What we'll discuss
When we meet, it will be focused, quiet, and confidential. We intentionally do not place a phone or computer in the conference room. And, in respect of our time together, we ask you to keep any cell phone off the table (it can only distract, and this is a strict rule of ours).
I've been doing estate planning for about 25 years, have a direct though respectful style, and we'll cover lots of territory. I will listen and give you my thoughts about your financial situation and your estate plan options. We don't want anything to disrupt that conversation.
Who'll you meet and when
You'll meet with me - Joel Bernstein - not a young associate like many law firms. We've set aside each Wednesday - from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. - for these first meetings. But we can make exceptions. Ask a staff member when you call us at 781 863-8606.
I generally begin by reviewing your current estate plan (even if you don't have one). We'll talk about what your current estate plan (or the law) provides if you pass away. It's a good starting point.
After about 20 minutes, you start understanding your situation in a deeper way. At that point you can begin to decide if it still works well for you or whether you can improve it in a way that makes more sense to you. People consistently tell me it is a highly valuable session.
If you're married
If you're married we insist you both attend.
What we'll discuss
This meeting is a private, one-on-one, confidential session. We generally discuss:
Anyone who has assets over $100,000 can gain something from this session.
Our time together
We'll meet for about an hour, or maybe a little more. It's in-depth; it's not a 'meet and greet'.
This meeting is all about you, your family, and what you want to accomplish. For this reason, we charge a nominal fee ($150) for the appointment which can be applied to your estate planning documents if you move ahead within a couple of weeks.
Whether you already have an estate plan that is current and want to know more, or have never done a will or trust and want to start, this session will be worthwhile.
