Some Massachusetts law firms claim to help you with all your legal needs, no matter what they are. Not this one. For 27 years, I’ve focused on one area of the law: namely, wills and trusts. I wanted to know that area of the law really well, and because it is my only area of concentration, no one can match my expertise. You can turn to me for help with any of your estate needs, including:
In Plain English
I offer all of these services with a “plain English” approach to discussion and written documents. Clarity, thoughtfulness, and simple explanations are the hallmark of my practice. I want you—and your beneficiaries—to understand your will and trust. And I don’t want you not to read the documents because you find them boring or hard to understand!
Legal drafting is a technical subject, and it has to be precise. I simply put it in terms that are easy to digest and readily understandable. For example:
Don’t Use Use
in the event that if
prior to before
pursuant to instead
said the, this, that
same it, them
subsequent to after
Of course, because Massachusetts has an estate tax, some documents need tax provisions, whose clauses are not exactly plain or easy to understand. Apart from these tax provisions, however, I consciously work to eliminate many of the needless words that make reading legal documents difficult and even nearly impossible to comprehend.
Here are some of the ways I work to put your legal documents in plain English:
I also make sure your documents are presented in a readable way, by using headings, more white space, and a highly readable font.
